The Veterans Memorial Park Committee is pleased to announce that construction on the park will commence after groundbreaking in August.  The Alexandria Park Department has taken down some large trees that needed to be removed as part of the site preparation.  We are in the process of getting bids from contractors and applying for building permits. When those things are in place, the construction will begin.

We expect delivery of the Liberty Bell and base in the next few weeks.   All of the granite for Phase I of the project has been ordered, and the process of engraving will soon begin.

Orders have been placed

An order has been placed for the light fixtures for the park. We have ordered the flag poles for the U. S. flag, POW flag, and  Minnesota flag.  Poles have also been ordered to fly the flags of the six branches of the service: Marine Corps, Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine.  Decisions are being made to move the monument/statue from the Douglas County Courthouse lawn.

View the progress

Most of the activity related to Veterans Memorial Park has been happening behind the scenes during the planning stages.  Soon the public will be able to see progress on the site of the park as construction begins on the corner of Broadway Street and 8th Avenue.
